Scripture for Spiritual Warfare

We don't defeat lies by merely trying not to think them; we replace lies with truth.

When you need to remember the battle is spiritual

• Ephesians 6:10–18 — Put on the full armor of God.

• 2 Corinthians 10:3–5 — Our weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds and take thoughts captive.

• Ephesians 6:12 — Our struggle is ultimately against spiritual forces, not flesh and blood.

• 1 Peter 5:8–9 — Be alert; resist the devil, standing firm in the faith.

When you need to resist the enemy

• James 4:7–8 — Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee.

• Luke 10:19–20 — Jesus gives His followers authority over the power of the enemy, while reminding them where their deepest joy belongs.

• 1 John 4:4 — The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

• Revelation 12:11 — God's people overcome through the blood of the Lamb and their testimony.

• Romans 16:20 — The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet.

When you're battling lies

• John 8:31–32 — The truth sets us free.

• John 8:44 — Satan is described as a liar and the father of lies.

• John 17:17 — God's Word is truth.

• Philippians 4:8 — Direct your thoughts toward what is true, honorable, right, pure, and praiseworthy.

• Romans 12:2 — Be transformed through the renewing of your mind.

• 2 Corinthians 10:5 — Take every thought captive to obey Christ.

When you're tempted

• 1 Corinthians 10:13 — God provides a way of escape in temptation.

• Hebrews 4:15–16 — Jesus understands temptation; approach God's throne for mercy and grace.

• Psalm 119:9–11 — Store God's Word in your heart so you don't sin against Him.

• Matthew 4:1–11 — Jesus answers Satan's temptations with Scripture.

• Galatians 5:16 — Walk by the Spirit rather than gratifying the desires of the flesh.

When you're afraid

• 2 Timothy 1:7 — God gives power, love, and self-control rather than a spirit of fear.

• Isaiah 41:10 — Don't fear; God is with you and will strengthen you.

• Psalm 27:1–3 — The Lord is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear?

• Psalm 56:3–4 — When I am afraid, I put my trust in God.

• Joshua 1:9 — Be strong and courageous because the Lord is with you.

When you feel condemned or ashamed

• Romans 8:1 — There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.

• 1 John 1:9 — Confess your sins and God faithfully forgives and cleanses.

• Psalm 103:10–12 — God removes our sins as far as east is from west.

• Hebrews 10:19–22 — Because of Christ, approach God with confidence.

• 2 Corinthians 5:17 — In Christ, you are a new creation.

When you need to remember your identity

• Ephesians 1:3–8 — Chosen, adopted, redeemed, and forgiven in Christ.

• Colossians 3:1–4 — Your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

• 1 Peter 2:9 — You are chosen and called out of darkness into God's light.

• Galatians 2:20 — Christ lives in you.

• Romans 8:14–17 — You have received the Spirit of adoption, not slavery and fear.

When you feel spiritually defeated

• Romans 8:31–39 — Nothing can separate you from God's love; we are more than conquerors through Christ.

• Colossians 2:13–15 — Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities and triumphed over them.

• 1 Corinthians 15:57 — God gives us victory through Jesus Christ.

• John 16:33 — Jesus has overcome the world.

• Psalm 18:1–3 — God is our rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, and stronghold.

When you're anxious or overwhelmed

• Philippians 4:6–7 — Bring everything to God in prayer and His peace will guard you.

• 1 Peter 5:6–7 — Cast your anxieties on God because He cares for you.

• Isaiah 26:3 — God keeps in perfect peace the one whose mind is fixed on Him.

• Psalm 46:1–3, 10 — God is our refuge and strength; be still and know He is God.

When you need God's protection

• Psalm 91 — Take refuge under God's protection.

• 2 Thessalonians 3:3 — The Lord is faithful; He will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.

• John 17:15 — Jesus prays that the Father would protect His followers from the evil one.

• Psalm 121 — The Lord watches over your coming and going.

• Proverbs 18:10 — The name of the Lord is a strong tower.

When you're praying for someone else

• Ephesians 1:17–19 — Pray for spiritual wisdom, revelation, and enlightened hearts.

• Ephesians 3:14–21 — Pray for strength through the Spirit and deeper knowledge of Christ's love.

• Colossians 1:9–14 — Pray for wisdom, endurance, fruitfulness, and strength.

• Luke 22:31–32 — Jesus prays for Peter that his faith will not fail.

• 2 Corinthians 4:3–6 — Pray in light of the spiritual blindness that keeps people from seeing the gospel.
